Jeffrey Jay Sikkenga
-
What's your hospital name? Jeffrey Jay Sikkenga. Named after my Dad’s favorite farm dog, “Jeff”. Middle name after my Dad, Jay. In our family, the son takes the father’s name as his middle name, so my son’s middle name is Jeffrey. Some weird Nordic thing.

What do you do for a living? I’m a professor of political science at AU and also work at the Ashbrook Center. So I partake of both the light of scholarship and the darkness of administration.
-
How long have you been in F3? I’ve been in Ashland F3 since before it was before F3. At one workout in the old AU field house, we had 4 guys show up. I thought: “l don’t think this thing is going to make it.” It’s those kind of bad judgments that have helped me rise as an administrator. Officially, though, I started in August 2019 after I got back from some time off in the summer. By that time, we were F3.
-
When was your first post? Late August 2019
-
Who headlocked you? Like so many others, I was originally head locked by Play D’oh. He is the greatest apostle Ashland F3 has ever had.
-
What's the story behind your F3 name? It is a triple entendre. I was a young rapper in the 1980s with nasty flow (e.g. “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash); I’ve been reputed to study Niccolo Machiavelli, a supposedly nasty man from Florence, Italy (I disavow any knowledge of him or his teachings); and I once defecated in a trash can at an F3 workout.
-
Where are you from originally? I was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, home of Harry Morgan, who played Colonel Potter on “MASH”.
-
How long have you lived in the Ashland area? I’ve lived in Ashland since January 1997.
-
What brought you to this area? I came here for a one semester temporary position at AU. It’s been a long semester.
-
What's your family situation?
-
What are your hobbies? Disc golf, board games, poker, biking, hiking, reading, playing almost any sport for fun, watching sports, watching movies, insulting @Freud.
-
What's your favorite movie? Hmm... it is tough to pick one, but Tommy Boy and Talladega Nights would be near the top of the list.
-
What's your favorite book? Hmm... it is tough to pick one, but I generally like mysteries and maybe I would select Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (aka Ten Little "Guardians").
-
What's your favorite food? Hmm... it is tough to pick one, but probably seafood and specifically lobster, though I am generally too cheap to buy it. Shrimp or Salmon are probably my favorite foods that I eat more regularly.
-
What's your favorite song? Hmm... it is tough to pick one, but my favorite artist is Billy Joel and I would probably pick "Piano Man" since I played piano as a kid or maybe "Only the Good Die Young." I know...you were thinking "Who Let the Dogs Out" or the University of Michigan fight song "The Victors."
-
What's your favorite exercise? Hmm...it is tough to pick one, but probably The Motivator or Running a Stadium.
-

-
What's your proudest fitness accomplishment since joining? The first time I completed 100 push-ups per day in December for Mitch's Push-up Challenge as I did not think it would be possible for me.
-
What's the worst F3 beatdown you've experienced? @FloNasty's wall stand workout during which we were in teams of 3 and one member of each team had to be doing a wall stand throughout the workout. Luckily, I had @Elmer's on my team nd only had to do a wall stand for 5 minutes.
-
Do you have any hidden talents or claims to fame? Mental computation - I won mental computation competitions in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Ability to appropriately decorate my car in maize and blue the week of Thanksgiving.
